WHAT ARE COOKIE FILES?

Cookies are compact text files containing data that your browser stores on your computer’s hard drive when you visit a website. For instance, certain website preferences can be saved in these files, so you do not need to set them again on every visit. A unique ID may also be saved, allowing a website, for example, to count how many unique visitors have used the site, or to track which pages you viewed so that other relevant pages can be suggested based on this. Although a cookie can therefore help create a unique profile of the user concerned, cookies never include personal information such as name or address details.

The Meroda Cosmetics website uses cookies for several purposes.

FUNCTIONAL COOKIE USE

We use cookies to make sure the site keeps working correctly and remains simple to use. This includes:

  • Storing preferences so you do not need to set them again each time you visit, such as language choice
  • Remembering certain settings or information while you move from page to page, such as filter settings or your shopping cart
  • Keeping the contents of your shopping cart, so it remains available for a later visit.
  • Saving your login information, if you enabled this in your browser during your first login
  • Remembering entered information, so that you can use it again quickly, if you enabled this function in your browser
  • Allowing a chat conversation with customers who have questions.
  • Distributing server load evenly, which helps keep the site fast.

ANALYTICS COOKIES

We measure how our website is used through a number of third-party tools. We do this to find and resolve errors on our site, improve ease of use and test new functions or designs, also known as A/B tests. These tools use cookies for this.

  • We use Google Analytics for general statistics, including page views, unique users, time per page/visit, conversion rate and more. For completeness, we also refer to Google’s privacy statement.
  • We use Hotjar to examine how pages are used. For completeness, we also refer to Hotjar’s privacy statement.
  • We use Visual Website Optimizer to run A/B tests. For completeness, we also refer to the privacy statement of Visual Website Optimizer.

ADVERTISING COOKIE USE

We use advertising networks to show users who are interested in our products advertisements for our products and promotions on other websites. These advertising networks use cookies to create a unique profile, recording which pages you have visited, so the right advertisements can be shown based on that.

This is done anonymously. No personal details, such as name or address information, are therefore stored and no link is made with your account at Meroda Cosmetics. Cookies are also used to connect the display of an advertisement to a possible purchase of the product, so that a fee can be paid to the advertising network on that basis.

A tool has been created by the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance that lets you see which advertising networks are tracking information.
